Introduction: Club America

Club America, also known as "Las Aguilas del America" (The Eagles) due to its mascot being an eagle, was founded in 1916. It is one of the most successful football teams in Mexico. It competes in the Mexican top soccer league called "La Liga MX" and has won its championship 11 times throughout the club's history. The club became well known during the 80's decade were the club won 8 titles in total, winning the league title 5 times, including three consecutive titles, Mexican Super Cup twice, and the CONCACAF Champions Cup once. It was during the 80's that America made its long term rival, Las Chivas del Guadalajara, due to the amount and way the games were played. America has also picked up a rivalry during the recent years with the clubs Pumas and Cruz Azul, both being from Mexico City, too.

Club America's Home Turf: Estadio Azteca

Outside view of the Estadio Azteca

This is the Azteca Stadium which opened its doors to the football world in May of 1966. It is often referred as the "Coloso de Santa Ursula" which translates to "Colossus of Saint Ursula". It is located in Santa Ursula, Mexico City, Mexico. The Azteca has hosted two world cup finals one for the 1970 World Cup and the 1986 World Cup. It is the largest stadium in Mexico and one of the largest stadiums in the world. It serves as a home not only to the America soccer club, but to the Mexican National soccer team as well. Another great reason to become a fan of America.

This stadium has the capacity to hold 104,000 fans. Its surface is completely grass, no artificial turfs or things like that. It is exclusively used for the sport of football, but has been used for special events such as concerts, boxing matches, and even one american football game.

How you can keep up with America and their statistics.

http://www.clubamerica.com.mx/

This is the official website were you will find everything about this amazing club. If you are looking for the clubs history, current players, their current statistics in the league, you name it, they have it. They also include information about the subdivision teams along with their statistics as well. This site even lets you reserve tickets for a game. It also includes the official store where you can find official licensed gear. The clubs home, the Azteca stadium, is also included in this website. You are able to get the history behind it and see it in pictures this website has.

This is a credible website because it is updated regularly. It keeps up with the latest team information. It also includes the club’s Facebook as well as their Twitter account. It keeps up with the clubs players and uploads interviews with them. This website also includes videos of recent press interviews with the club’s staff. Most importantly, this website allows you to register as an America fan with a promotion called “Socio Aguila”. This promotion lets you enjoy some benefits that regular fans do not usually get, such as discounts in gear and tickets. This is the perfect website for fans to keep up to date with this amazing team.

Yes. I believe this will be an important piece for my research because I will be able to get quotes from players as well as staff members. I can also obtain pictures of the team and some of the best players in the club.

Another great website to keep up with America and other sports!

This website keeps the soccer community up to date on all football clubs all over the world. From transfers to match results, televisadeportes.com has it all. One can even follow the stats of a live match such as any goals scored, how many corner kicks, how many yellow or red cards, and substitutions.

This is a credible website because it is managed by Televisa. Televisa is one of the biggest mass media companies in Mexico. It plays an important role in the Hispanic community living In the US by airing some of its shows through Univision. Televisa also owns the franchise of some of the most important Mexican soccer teams such as America. It also plays an important role with Teleton, a program crated to help children with disabilities throughout Mexico. Televisa plays a massive role in Mexico and United States.

Yes, this is a helpful piece of information. It is up to date, keeps up with clubs all over the world, and has live match coverage. However, there are also some downfalls to this website. This website doesn’t just follow soccer. It also follows other sports such as football, baseball, and tennis. There are also many ads that pop out as you navigate throughout the website.  Another problem is that since it’s owned by a Mexican company, some features aren’t allowed in the US. Some of those features have to do with soccer games so it is not always the best option. Overall, I believe it is a complete and useful website to the soccer community.

A glance of what the 2012-2013 final was like.

America vs Cruz Azul: Final game for the championship (2012-2013). Cruz Azul: a long term rival of America. If you are still not convinced that America is the best team in the Mexican League, then you should view this video and make some research on this epic final. America was down 1-nil in the aggregate score. The closing game was in the Estadio Azteca, Americas home turf. Around the 16th minute of the first half America's player Jesus Molina was red carded, leaving America with 10 players on the pitch. Cruz Azul seemed to have the whole game under control when one of their players scored the second goal for them making the aggregate score 2-0. America never gave up and around the 88th minute of the second half Aquivaldo Mosquera scored the opening goal for America putting the score 2-1. The highlight of the game came when the goalie, Moises Munoz, went up to the box on America's corner kick. There, around the 93rd minute, which is aggregate time in soccer, was when Moises Munoz headed the ball into the back of the net. America then proceeded to penalties, were they won the game for the championship.

Things one can do to support Club America.

You might not know this but that is the logo of the America soccer club. This is one of the most successful Mexican soccer teams. They are from Mexico DF, the capital of Mexico. My family is a big fan of this team. We all get together and have cookouts almost every weekend just to watch them play; it’s like church on my house every Saturday. This team helps unite my whole family. We have cried when this team has lost a championship, but it has also made us smile many times when they win the championship. We have seen them play in Monterrey, Mexico many times. Every time I look at this picture I feel like we are part of the America community, always supporting the team even at bad times. In the most recent championship (2012) we went out to the streets of Brownsville and celebrated with many other people. It was as if everybody knew each other for years. Everybody was hugging, cheering, laughing, and interacting with random people. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. It’s amazing how a single soccer team can bring many strangers together and make them act as if they were best friends for many years.

Interview:

I was able to interview a friend of mine and in the interview he mentioned that his family also gathers for some soccer games. He also mentioned that having jerseys from the club could be another way of showing your support towards the team. When asked how he showed support for his team, he replied "Go watch them every time you get a chance", meaning that every time the team is in town for an exhibition match, one should be there supporting the team. Attending some of the clubs games would show support but would also be a great and fun time to experience.
